| WHAT IS AN EMBOSSED PRINT? | ![]() |
|||||||||||||||||
| An EMBOSSED PRINT is a relief print that is taken off of a plate, with or without ink.In these particular embossed prints I use a combination of inked and un-inked (Blind Embossing) techniques. The original plate is a #40 grit disc of sandpaper that is inked and printed.The grit of the coarse sandpaper leaves a beautiful texture embedded in the 100% rag paper. This rich stippled surface enhances the color of the inked impression and catches light and shadow on the uninked areas. | ||||||||||||||||||
| HOW THESE PRINTS CAME TO BE | ||||||||||||||||||
| In these series of prints titled “Moons”, Cyclones”, Rascals” and “Solos,” I am exploring the possibilities that different objects and materials had to offer as printable elements. With access to an etching press, I inked up and printed #40 grit sanding disk right off the hardware store shelf. In addition to developing a series of multi colored geometric patterns within a defined shape, the 6” circle, I had the ability to combine blind embossed sections of pure texture with inked sections, all in one print. This was a very exciting idea to work with. Some of these images are printed in editions of two prints per plate, while others are monoprints. |
